Skye Barker- Therapy Dog

As a border collie, Skye is a working dog with a job to do.

  • Skye has lived around disability her whole life. When the owner of her first home became unable to care for her, Skye enjoyed a year of being fostered by a support coordinator before bouncing into her Fur-ever home and her role as Therapy Dog at Pilentum. Skye is carefully matched with participants. She has experience in encouraging people with movement goals that involve increasing distance walked, balance goals such as reaching to the floor. Skye uses therapy modalities including walking, ball throwing and accepting pats.

As Skye is a dog, and has her own needs, she is only available on an ad-hoc basis. She is only matched with participants when it is mutually beneficial to both Skye and to the participant.

Skye’s services have always been an adjunct to physiotherapy sessions, and there have been, and never will be any further financial charge when she attends sessions.

When not at work Skye enjoys chasing a ball and digging. She is proud of improving her family’s exercise levels.
